There are so many reasons why people develop phobias and usually there will have been a traumatic trigger event to initially set them off. These feelings of intense fear can be extremely debilitating and cause people to rapidly lose confidence which ultimately affects all aspects of their lives.
In this situation, phobics will go to great lengths to avoid anything or anywhere that they may encounter that trigger, meaning that they alter their normal patterns to such an extent that it can have a rebound effect on everything – work, relationships, leisure and family life. But phobias are learned patterns and can be diminished and eliminated altogether, both safely and comfortably.
Utilising a combination of fast phobia technique, reframing, rewind and specific relaxation methods, hypnotherapy has been proven to be highly effective in helping to overcome phobias.
Around 1 in 10 people, according to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, suffer this condition. The most common phobias are open spaces and – yes you’ve got it – spiders! The most common fears according to latest research, also include flying, heights, exams, public speaking, needles, failure, but there are many others.
Like most negative thoughts and feelings, fears and phobias are learned issues. We did not come into the world fearful, judgemental or anxious. Just as we can learn these issues, so we can just as easily unlearn them and recode our beliefs, becoming stronger, calmer and altogether more comfortable in the process. Hypnotherapy and RTT work to alter the client’s belief system and their perception of fear and in doing so, diminish it to a point where it is no longer an issue. This is done in a calm, caring and supportive environment.
